Newly published from Sturgeon Bay author, Thomas Davis, THE PROPHECY OF THE WOLF is a historical novel set in 1600s Door County, Kewaunee County and the Green Bay area, during a time of great turmoil. The novel is about the Neshnabek (Potawatomi), told by Ogima, a young man, who speaks the history of Quapaw, a waubeno, powerful shaman, into the wind. Quapaw, after hearing a prophecy from a storyteller wolf in a vision, starts opposing the power of the French Jesuits and fur traders as they slowly take root in Northern Wisconsin. Following our protagonist, we plunge deep into cultures just beginning to feel the clash between Europeans and American Indian tribes and involves some of the earliest known historical figures on the Great Lakes.
Thomas Davis was the Provost at Navajo Technical College, a tribally controlled college on the Navajo Nation. He is a poet, scholar, and playwright known for his work for tribal colleges, sustainable development, and high performance computing. He was one of the founders of the World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium and helped to found College of the Menominee Nation in Keshena, Wisconsin. He has been the President of two tribal colleges and the Acting President of another one. Davis wrote the Edna Ferber Fiction award winning novel, IN THE UNSETTLED HOMELAND OF DREAMS which tells the story of seven black families that settled at West Harbor on Washington Island before the Civil War.
